To our fellow citizens:
At the June 20th State Boundary Commission public hearing, an inference made during the public-comment portion was so inaccurate that it merits an immediate, public response.
Referencing records willingly made public by the CGC, one speaker proceeded to suggest that the CGC is somehow aligned with, or otherwise related to Aubrey McClendon and his proposed development.
This is a classic case of referencing a single fact to support a patently untrue inference.
Here are all the facts, which the speaker either did not know, or chose not to relate:
- The CGC accepted a donation from Mr. McClendon’s Singapore Dunes, LLC, just as other community organizations—including the Saugatuck Douglas Historical Society—have done.
- There have been no meetings of any kind—face-to-face, by telephone, internet, or other communications means—on consolidation matters between the CGC and Mr. McClendon, or anyone representing him or his development.
- There have been no messages on consolidation matters—by letter, phone, email or any other communications means—exchanged between the CGC and Mr. McClendon, or anyone representing him or his development.
- The CGC has never taken, and will not take a position on the Singapore Dunes development.
The CGC’s focus is to bring government consolidation before the voters. To that end, we are also committed to truthful, accurate, fact-based community discussion. We hope all parties will embrace a similar commitment.
