Consolidated Government Committee Reacts:
"A good day for democracy in West Michigan." That’s how Consolidated Government Committee chairman, Travis Randolph, referred to the State Boundary Commission decision recommending that consolidation of the local governments in Saugatuck and Douglas move forward to the next step. The state’s Director of Licensing and Regulation is expected to act on the commission’s recommendation, and order the consolidation.
“From the onset, we have been committed to bringing consolidation to a vote,” said Randolph. “It’s been 23 years since consolidation was first recommended by the Tri-Community Plan. The real winners here are the residents of Saugatuck and Douglas who will finally get their say on the form of their government.”
